That's right...about every weekend has had some sort of agenda since Jack has been here. Great agendas, yes, but nevertheless, this was our first weekend just the three of us, and it was fabulous! Picked marionberries, raspberries, and blueberries Saturday morning, followed by an impromptu run down 99W into Willamette Valley wine country to explore what has been in our own backyard for six years now. Go figure we've waited to see what's here until after we have a child! Duh! At August Cellars, the local goat cheese maker stopped by to drop off some of her chevre for the visitors to taste...wow! So up the road we went to buy some purely local goat cheese chevre! Into Newburg for more tasting at Artisenal, and a wonderfully french-inspired lunch at Recipe restaurant...highly recommended by the Demarays!
Sunday, we experimented with turning our Weber charcoal grill into a smoker using hickory wood chips and a wild sockeye salmon. I used the recipe for two different rubs and directions from the Oregonian's FOODday section last week. It really delivered smoked flavor and was pretty excellent paired with grilled baguette and our new chevre. Oh, and some Riesling from August Cellars...so thankful that our adventures are still alive and well even as a family of three. Even better!
